July 21/10 Senga's Vlog - Why are my radishes all Seedy?

It is now late July and ironically all the radishes I planted in late spring suddenly put on a sprint of growth - coinciding with the now dry and hot summer that seems to have arrived and actually wants to stay!

And yes it is hot on the edible green roof - great news for tomatoes, melons, beans, peppers, eggplants and other heat loving plants but not so good for cool season crops such as radishes.

As a result I have had to water the garden (being the soil beds are only 10" deep) and this has been less than consistent! The result is warm, dry soil with periods of wet and cool and that is bad news for radishes. The result is 'pithy' roots that are now in survival mode - trying to flowe and procreate themselves before they expire in the hot summer sun!

Well there is always fall - maybe mother nature will cooperate in September! But in the meantime I bring you via my blog -  my radishes in July - seeds and all.
