July 8/10 Senga's Vlog How To Grow A Fun Summer Salad

As our summer is slowing making an appearance in Vancouver (we actually put the fans on in the office today!) the veggies and fruits are starting to explode in growth.

This is good for our heat loving crops but no so good for our cool season crops such as radishes, spinach and lettuces. For the next couple of weeks I will be harvesting like mad the plethora of mixed greens we have growing on our edible green roof - all before they start bolting in the heat.

My vlog shows you how easy it is to grow a mixed green salad of Arugula, Heirloom Endive Maraichere Tres Frisee, Heirloom leaf lettuces and even a bit of Romaine thrown in for a delicious summer salad. Throw in some Snow Peas and Heirloom English Breakfast Radishes, Strawberries and even Empress of India Nasturtium flowers from our roof and you have the makings of a cool, breezy salad for those hot summer night dinners. Click here to see how I did it in a 3' x 3' space - simple if you use the Square Foot Gardening techinique.
