Hirsch Farm - Pemberton
A reclaimed 40 acre farm in the valley community of Pemberton...

The Site
The land was recolonized by native brush and meadow and pockets of Poplar Forest. The site is located in a flood plain and bordered by the Lillooet River and Dyke on the Eastern Edge, Woodland to the South, and Farms to the North and West. The site enjoys 180 degrees of panoramic mountain views.
The Challenge
The owner's wish list was to create:
- Reinstate the 35-38 acres to agricultural use
- Site house and gardens to take advantage of the mountain views
- Create a landscape that provides seasonal interest, low maintenance, highly drought tolerant
- Theme the landscape reflective of an agricultural vernacular
- Develop outdoor patio areas - private patio from master bedroom, communal patio from dining area and kitchen.
The latter containing an outdoor kitchen and fire trough for entertaining
- A formal herb and vegetable garden
The Design
The landscape palette incorporated bold masses of ornamental grasses to emulate the adjacent hay fields. Drifts of aromatic Lavenders and roses surround outdoor patio areas and the variety of complimentary drought tolerant perennial round off the main core planting scheme.
Maple trees line the driveway, providing a sense of drama and entrance sequence as the land rise subtly up to the house and gardens.
