The Brook
First LEEDS Platinum building in North Vancouver...
The Site
A twenty-four unit, four level contemporary residential development terraced to fit on a gently sloping site that used to be home to a gas station. Construction commenced May 2007 with anticipated completion Winter 2009. The client Streamline Group is committed to and specializes in green building design and this is one in a series of future projects we will be engaged in.
The Challenge
To create a landscape that is responsive to the contemporary architecture of the building, sympathetic to the traditional English garden vernacular of the surrounding neighbourhood and performs as per LEED's criteria.
The Design
The landscape is a minimalist compositions of 'architectural like' plants whose structure and form emulate the clean lines and simplicity of the architecture. Plants like clumping bamboo, and ornamental grasses were strategically placed adjacent patios to provide a year round green screen buffer and privacy from the street.
Sustainable Design
Planting palette were also chosen for their drought tolerant qualities. High efficiency irrigation heads using non-potable water will establish plants and will turned off after two growing seasons
